Folding Boat in Alaska

“We did not invent the folding boat, we just perfected it.”

About Us

I have been an avid outdoorsman for as long as I can remember. Camping in the Adirondacks as a kid and fishing small ponds whenever time allowed after school while growing up here in NC. I mostly enjoy the solitude and tranquility that comes from venturing into remote or harder to reach places. I have had the good fortune to fish and paddle remote lakes and streams from North Carolina thru Wyoming and even Alaska. I've also enjoyed many a leisurely float down the river and a few paddling trips through the Okefenokee with good friends.

One undisputable and ever present hassle with all of these outings was the many problems involved with getting a boat to the water. Even something as simple as a canoe required building, borrowing, or buying a roof rack, (that may or may not fit), or a trailer and then finding someone to help me load and then unload it. Just hauling it from the car to the water could be difficult depending on where we were. Of course it was mostly impossible to hike several miles in to highland lake with even a canoe. A good friend and I used to carry a small boat several miles down a trail before dawn to duck hunt, stopping several times along the way to rest. Then we had to haul it back, never a part of the expedition we looked forward to.

I researched several small, light, “portable” boats to purchase. They were all either to bulky, heavy, or required extensive assembly time and skill. There had to be a better way…

I quickly learned that physics requires compromise. For instance, a boat or even an airplane may be able to carry a heavy load but it will be restricted to a slower speed and greater weight. The goal was to find a perfect compromise: A utilitarian boat that could be used for leisurely rowing, sight seeing, fishing, or even hunting.

We have achieved our goal with K-PAK. She's strong and stout but light. She's portable but comfortable and quick to assemble. She's made from some of the best materials available today yet she is affordable. We designed our boat for portability. That translates directly to storability. Now anyone with limited storage space can own a boat.

The K-PAK, our boat in production now, is based on our 12th generation prototype. It has taken more than 2 1/2 years to perfect every little nuance about this boat. Using the most advanced CAD software available we have developed a boat that is structurally sound, impervious to hard knocks, very comfortable, stable, as light as we could go with the materials available today, compact in size, and most importantly, quick to assemble. She is also fast in the water, with minimal drag, and she tracks and turns well. She's not built for white water or long term touring but she is everything in-between. There is plenty of room for overnight camping gear and all the food and beverage required to make the evening an enjoyable one.

We hope you will enjoy using our boats as much as we do. Please feel free to contact me at any time with any questions you may have.

Best Regards,
Pete
